Comments from Dr. Jim Watts: Suncloud Kinetic is a proven herdsire for breeding ultrafine alpaca wools of 16 microns and finer and, at the same time, eliminating guard hair. It is of great interest to the SRS(R) group of alpaca breeders to supply wool that is finer and softer than cashmere whilst producing high fleece weights from each animal. Kinetic's cria lie between 12 to 15 microns for fibre diameter. His progeny in their second fleeces are testing from 15.2 to 16.3 microns. Kinetic has remained very fine in diameter throughout his life: 16.0 microns in first fleece; 16.4 microns in second fleece; 19.1 in third fleece; 19.3 microns in fourth fleece; and 18.1 microns in fifth fleece. As a two year old, Kinetic was measured at a high density of 67.5 follicles (fibres) per square millimetre and a high fibre length of 0.44 millimetres per day. His primary fibres are exceptionally fine at a mean of 26.8 microns (mean diameter of secondary fibres was 19.4 microns). One of his sons, Suncloud Solar Eclipse (IAR 158142) has been kept and another son, Suncloud Gilbraltar (IAR 158161) sold to SRS(R) alpaca breders, David and Jenny Young at Rosa Glen Alpacas, Western Australia.
